Scale

The scale of a drawing is the relationship between the size of the object in the drawing and the object in real life. Drawing an object to scale means enlarging or reducing all its measurements in proportion.

This is an interesting presentation about scales made by Isabelop.

Vernier caliper and micrometer

A Vernier caliper is a measuring instrument consisting of a fixed ruler in millimeters and a nonius or sliding scale. Using this instrument, we are able to  measure interior spaces or diameters, thickness, length and exterior diameters, and depth in an object.

A micrometer is a nut and bolt mechanism that measures small distances or thicknesses between its two faces, one of which can be moved away from or towards the other by turning a screw with a fine thread.

We use these instruments to measure more precisely.

Views of an object

We can look at an object from three different viewpoints, getting the front view, plan and side view.

The front view shows us the front of the object, and it is the view that more information provides.

The plan is the view of the object from above.

The side view is the view of one side of the object.
